More galley work

Working with Corian is amazing! Here Duane has trimmed the original countertop to fit our cabinet. But in doing so, he trimmed off the finished edge. No problem - just build it back up by using epoxy to glue a new piece in place. Then sand/trim to fit using a router.

Thought I'd throw in this cute photo.  Duane makes everything look easy....but it really is a complicated time consuming process.  Here he is after routing some of the Corian - it comes away from the router in a fine "mist" and sticks to everything!

We toted the whole thing into the trailer momentarily just to make sure we liked the fit.

And here's a detail of the finished edge.  Isn't it wonderful?

Starting the Galley Refurbishment

Let me remind you what the galley looked like originally....

We've removed everything from the cabinet so it's ready for refurb!  New stainless gas cooktop and convection/microwave will replace the old gas stove.

We found a "free to a good home" ad on Craigslist. A couple in Chapel Hill had replaced their nice Corian countertops with granite. They just wanted rid of the old countertops - and we were the lucky recipients!






Lots of work to do to make it a custom fit - but we're really happy with our find! Can't argue with the price!

Final frame work

The rear of the trailer had a good bit of rusty frame also.

No problem for Duane! Just cut out the bad, weld in the new!

Primed with good old RustOleum!

And aluminum skin back in place. Good as new! 

Bathroom cabinets

Finally getting to put the bathroom cabinets back in place!

Glad to see the trim fits back nicely!

We'll have to make completely new countertop since the old one was falling apart.

 

Shelf paper

Let me remind you what every single shelf looked like.....this vintage "contact" paper was everywhere. And it had a very "chemical" smell. So, I slowly removed all of it.

All the shelves were just bare wood.  (I had taken off all the doors for re-finishing.  All the woodwork got several coats of polyurethane).

Kindof hard to see, but the new shelf paper is generic white - the soft-grip stuff you use in tool-boxes and drawers made by Rubbermaid.  Just measure and cut to size using scissors.  It's removable and (believe it or not) machine washable!

And I'm finally working my way thru the trailer re-installing some of those cabinet doors I worked on forever!!

The floor went in nicely....lots of spreading of glue...

And all done!  Doesn't look much different than it did just lying there before the glue.

I put the paper back in place to cover the surface so we won't scuff it up while doing the rest of the repairs!

After the floor was finished, I moved to the front of the trailer.  The "rock guard" needs some repairs to the fiberglass, so it had to be removed.

The front windows are plexiglass (the rest of the windows are safety glass).  The plexiglass is in decent shape, but dirty and scratched a bit.  In addition, the grey glazing around the edges is awful and needs replacement.

A little hard to see the difference, but a few hours of cleaning and polishing has the glass pretty shiny.  Also hard to see, but we replaced the grey glazing with the same black rubber glazing as the other windows.  

Avion vinyl floor replacement

Finally got brave and cut out the new flooring....the first piece goes in the bathroom thru the berth area hall.

I'm pretty pleased with the fit - almost too close to the wall in places since I'll probably need a little "wiggle room"

And then the final piece for the remainder of the trailer was cut.

And here it is all in place now, no adhesive yet.

Removed all of the vinyl for the final step....using floor leveler to make sure there is a smooth surface for the flooring install!  It has to dry overnight....
